Keke Palmer reflects on early bankruptcy experience and financial lessons learned

Keke Palmer has become more prudent with her finances after experiencing bankruptcy in her late teens. The Illinois native, originally from Harvey and raised in Robbins, began her acting career at the age of 9. Her first role was in "Barbershop 2: Back in Business" (2004), followed by a part in "Madea’s Family Reunion" (2006) as Nikki, before securing her first lead role in "Akeelah and the Bee" (2006), according to US Weekly.

Navigating the entertainment industry can be challenging for child stars, but Palmer had the support of her parents throughout her career. At the age of 12, they hired a business manager to help guide her financial decisions.

“That has helped me immensely,” Palmer stated during the Building Wealth Today for Tomorrow Financial Empowerment Summit on October 12, 2024, at the UIC Forum in Chicago, IL.

Despite having professional financial guidance, Palmer encountered financial difficulties and filed for bankruptcy between the ages of 18 and 19.
