Northwestern University's Wirtz Center for the Performing Arts is set to launch its annual MFA Collaboration series on November 22, with a drama centered around four roommates and their revealing Sunday morning drinks. The series will continue through the winter and spring quarters of 2025.
The MFA Lab series brings together second-year MFA theater directors and designers from Northwestern, fostering collaborations that showcase emerging theatrical talent. All performances will take place at the Hal and Martha Hyer Wallis Theater, located at 1949 Campus Drive on Northwestern's Evanston campus.
Performances are scheduled for Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are priced at $20 for the general public, while Northwestern students can purchase them in advance for $8 or $12 at the door.
Additional information and tickets can be obtained through the Wirtz Center website, by phone at 847-491-7282, or in person at the Wirtz Center Box Office in the Ethel M. Barber Theater lobby, located at 30 Arts Circle Drive on Northwestern’s Evanston campus.
The first production in the series is "Sunday on the Rocks," running from November 22 to November 24. Written by Theresa Rebeck and directed by Mariana Parejo Molinares, this feminist comedy unfolds as three housemates enjoy scotch on a Sunday morning while grappling with their identities as women. The arrival of their fourth roommate adds tension to their seemingly carefree day.
Following "Sunday on the Rocks," "Wink" will be performed from February 14 to February 16. This dark comedy by Jen Silverman, directed by Claire Bauman, explores themes of desire and domestic chaos when a couple's cat goes missing.
The final production, "Mancub," is scheduled for May 16 to May 18. Directed by Christopher Michael Richardson and written by Douglas Maxwell, it tells the story of Paul, a teenage boy whose life takes an unusual turn as he begins transforming into animals amidst his everyday struggles.
