Beginning this week, the Chicago Department of Transportation is set to conduct roadwork on Halsted Street, stretching from Van Buren Street to Roosevelt Road. This project aims to enhance safety for cyclists using the northbound and southbound bicycle lanes along this section of Halsted Street, which borders the east side of a local campus.
The planned improvements include protected curbing in some areas and minor modifications designed to increase cyclist safety while preserving current vehicle travel lanes. The work is scheduled for completion later this fall. During active construction periods, vehicle travel may be limited to one lane, potentially causing traffic delays. Pedestrian crossings over Halsted Street might also be affected at times.
Cyclists are advised to consider alternate routes during the roadwork for their safety. Additionally, students, employees, and visitors commuting by personal vehicles should remain aware of the ongoing project on Halsted Street.
"While this roadwork is in progress, please use extra caution when traveling in the area," stated a spokesperson for the department.
