Sheriff's Police in Cook County, Illinois, will be stationed at polling sites across suburban areas on Tuesday to ensure the safety of poll workers and residents casting their votes. This announcement was made by Sheriff Thomas J. Dart.
The Sheriff's Police have been collaborating with the Cook County Clerk’s Office, responsible for elections in suburban Cook County, to address security concerns during this election cycle and will maintain this cooperation on Election Day.
"We want the citizens of Cook County to feel safe and secure while exercising their right to vote," stated Sheriff Dart.
Officers will also investigate any reports of prohibited activities at polling locations. These activities include electioneering, obstructing voters, and non-compliance with orders from election judges.
Furthermore, the Sheriff's Office has provided suburban police departments with information about laws concerning polling places. This includes details about the authority of election judges, who is permitted inside polling places, and actions that are not allowed at these sites.
Residents who observe suspicious activity at polling locations are urged to contact 911 or reach out to Sheriff's Police at 847-635-1188.
