Tinley Park man faces charges after Halloween standoff

A Tinley Park man, aged 54, has been charged with serious felonies following a lengthy standoff with police. Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced the charges of Aggravated Kidnapping with a Firearm and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm against the individual.

The incident began on Halloween morning when law enforcement teams were called to a residence in the 17900 block of South Harlem Avenue. Authorities were informed that Jason Soltis, the resident, had barricaded himself inside his home with two other individuals while armed.

After nearly 17 hours, at approximately 3:38 a.m. on November 1st, officers entered the home upon hearing a gunshot from within. Soltis was taken into custody without further conflict. Inside the house, two female victims were found; one appeared unharmed while the other was restrained by her ankles and wrists. Both were taken to a local hospital for evaluation but did not suffer injuries from gunfire.

On Saturday, felony charges were approved by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office against Soltis for his actions during the standoff.

Soltis is expected to make an initial appearance at Leighton Criminal Courthouse today.

Authorities remind the public that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
