Chicago City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin has been committed to financial empowerment since assuming office in 2019. Recognizing the importance of providing access to resources for building generational wealth, she initiated the Building Wealth for Tomorrow Financial Empowerment Summit. This event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 12th, at the UIC Forum, located at 1213 S. Halsted.
Now in its fourth year, the summit offers speakers and resources aimed at enhancing credit understanding, real estate purchasing knowledge, and future investment preparation. A special focus this year is on engaging young people with wealth-building strategies and personal brand development.
In previous years, notable figures such as Ervin "Magic" Johnson have participated as speakers. This year's lineup includes Keke Palmer, Larenz Tate, and Matthew Knowles. Knowles will discuss entrepreneurship while Tate will address family business and wealth creation.
Conyears-Ervin emphasizes her commitment to representing the community that supported her election as City Treasurer. She envisions a future where discussions about generational wealth are commonplace across all city communities.
“Even if you did not come from wealth, we can still talk about building wealth for our family and generations to come,” Conyears-Ervin stated.
