Chicago school board president resigns after mayor's request

Mayor Brandon Johnson has announced the resignation of Reverend Mitchell Johnson, President of the Chicago School Board of Education. The resignation is effective immediately following a request from Mayor Johnson. In his statement, Mayor Johnson cited "antisemitic, misogynistic, and conspiratorial statements" made by Reverend Mitchell Johnson as the reason for the request.

Mayor Johnson emphasized that such statements are "unacceptable" and reaffirmed his administration's commitment to transforming the public education system in Chicago. He noted that Reverend Mitchell Johnson's continued presence on the board would impede progress in achieving educational goals.

The mayor assured that efforts will be made to find a qualified replacement who aligns with the city's dedication to educational excellence. He expressed his commitment to working with stakeholders to ensure quality education for all children in Chicago.

The upcoming Board of Education meeting will continue as scheduled under existing bylaws.
