A 15-year-old from Matteson has been charged with first-degree murder following a fatal shooting incident involving a relative. The announcement was made by Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Monday, August 26, when Sheriff's Police responded to reports of a shooting outside a residence on the 22000 block of Governors Highway. Officers found Jose Moran-Padilla, aged 22, unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigations revealed that the juvenile allegedly shot Moran-Padilla during a verbal argument outside the home, hitting him in the back and right arm. A semi-automatic handgun and two firearm magazines were recovered at the scene, and the juvenile was taken into custody without incident.
On Tuesday, August 27, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of first-degree murder against the juvenile. He appeared for his initial hearing at Juvenile Court where he was ordered to be held at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center.
Authorities remind the public that "the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law."
