A 34-year-old man has been charged with promoting prostitution after an investigation by the Cook County Sheriff's Police Special Victims Unit. Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced that Shi Wang, who worked as a doorman for an illegal brothel, was taken into custody on October 9.
The arrest followed an undercover operation at the brothel, which was operating out of a massage parlor located in the 2500 block of South Halsted Street in Chicago. Investigators discovered that Wang was responsible for setting prices for sexual acts, collecting proceeds from these acts, and facilitating encounters with clients.
On the same day, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved two Class 4 felony charges of promoting prostitution against Wang, who resides in the 200 block of W. 25th Place in Chicago. He has since been released from custody and is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on October 16.
The City of Chicago building inspectors shut down the business as part of the operation conducted alongside Chicago Police. The women found inside were referred to the Sheriff’s Victim Support Services Unit.
