Larenz Tate, known for his role in "Love Jones," recently shared insights into his acting career during the Building Wealth Today for Tomorrow (BWTT) Financial Empowerment Summit. The event took place on October 12 at Chicago's UIC Forum and aimed to promote generational wealth building.
The summit is described as "the largest financial education program of its kind," according to Chicago’s City Treasurer Melissa Conyears Ervin. She noted that it brings together experts from various sectors to help residents build a financially secure future.
Tate, originally from Westside Chicago, spoke about his journey into the entertainment industry. His family moved to Los Angeles, California, where his father worked in education. To keep their children away from a growing drug epidemic in their area, Tate's parents enrolled them in performance arts schools.
“They got us into performing arts to keep us busy, to kind of keep us out of the streets, if you will…We never went to Los Angeles to become actors or be in the entertainment business. We just went there for some other opportunities, and thanks to our parents, they got us involved in the performing arts. And from there our careers have taken off,” Tate explained during the summit.
