Marie Lynn Miranda UIC Chancellor | University Of Illinois At Chicago
With the academic year in progress, UIC reaffirms its dedication to fostering a campus environment that respects and promotes tolerance, inclusion, and diversity. The university emphasizes its collective responsibility to embody values of inclusivity, dignity, and respect.
UIC's policies against discrimination and harassment extend protections to all community members based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, order of protection status, genetic information, disability, pregnancy, sexual orientation including gender identity, unfavorable discharge from the military or status as a protected veteran. These protections apply across admissions and employment aspects such as recruitment and promotion.
The Office for Access and Equity provides resources for those facing discrimination or harassment. This office is tasked with ensuring compliance with Title IX and addressing sex discrimination through comprehensive policies. Mandatory reporters must contact the office regarding sexual misconduct reports.
Sexual discrimination incidents can be reported online with strict prohibitions against retaliation. Additionally, accommodations for disability, religious beliefs, pregnancy/parenting are facilitated by the office. Services include training and conflict resolution to address workplace issues.
UIC is committed to equality by enhancing representation through outreach efforts targeting women and historically underrepresented groups. The goal is an inclusive campus where teaching and research reflect community diversity.
"We are building a campus where everyone matters and everyone belongs," states UIC leadership in encouraging equal access to educational opportunities at the university.
