Amazon hiring 8,000 in Illinois for Prime Big Deal Days, holidays

Amazon has announced Prime Big Deal Days, a two-day event offering exclusive deals for its Prime members. The company is actively hiring to support events like these and the upcoming holiday season.

According to About Amazon, the Prime Big Deal Days event was held on October 8-9, 2024, and provided Prime members with exclusive deals across categories such as electronics, fashion, home, kitchen, toys, and Amazon Devices.

About Amazon also states that fulfillment centers and delivery stations play a crucial role in ensuring timely deliveries during major sales events like Prime Big Deal Days and the holidays. Planning for these events begins months in advance, with new hires undergoing training and onboarding processes essential for maintaining safe and efficient operations. Fulfillment centers are tasked with picking, packing, and shipping orders, while delivery stations sort packages for dispatch to drivers.

Amazon plans to hire 250,000 full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees across the United States during the holiday season. This initiative aims to create job opportunities for individuals seeking extra income or a long-term career path. In Illinois alone, the company is hiring 8,000 seasonal employees who will earn at least $18 per hour and receive health care benefits starting on their first day of work. The positions offer competitive pay, flexible hours, and potential for career advancement.

"We’re investing $2.2 billion into additional pay for our fulfillment and transportation employees," said Sandy Gordon, Vice President of Global Operations Employee Experience. "This brings the average total compensation to more than $29 per hour when you include the value of their elected benefits (things like health care from the first day on the job)."

According to Amazon's What We Do webpage, the company provides a range of services including online and in-person shopping, delivery of fresh produce, media distribution, operation of devices such as Alexa and Fire TV, as well as cloud solutions through Amazon Web Services (AWS).
