Illinois Institute of Technology's College of Computing has introduced six new faculty members for the fall 2024 semester. This addition aims to cater to an increasing student population and promote innovation through research.
André Bauer, Yutong Wang, and Minxuan Zhou have joined the Department of Computer Science as assistant professors. Huiling Liao and Megan Morrison are now part of the Department of Applied Mathematics as assistant professors. Steven Rubinow has taken on the role of associate teaching professor in the Department of Information Technology and Management.
Lance Fortnow, dean of the College of Computing, expressed enthusiasm about these appointments: “Welcoming new faculty to the College of Computing is always an exciting time. Each of these talented individuals brings fresh perspectives, expertise, and a passion for innovation that will enhance our community. Their contributions will not only drive forward our research and teaching but also inspire our students to explore new frontiers in computing. We look forward to seeing the impact they will have on our college and the broader field.”
Bauer's work focuses on advancing data science within scientific computing. He has been involved with Argonne National Laboratory since 2003 after completing his postdoctoral research at the University of Chicago. He holds a doctorate from University of Würzburg.
Wang's research encompasses multiclass classification phenomena, overparametrized learning models, AI in gene expression data harmonization, among others. He recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at University of Michigan where he obtained his Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering.
Zhou specializes in computer architecture and machine learning acceleration. He was previously a postdoctoral scholar at University of California San Diego where he earned his Ph.D. in computer science.
Liao has conducted research on asset pricing models and genetics during her postdoctoral tenure at University of Minnesota. She earned her Ph.D. in statistics from Texas A&M University.
Morrison focuses on systems neuroscience intersecting with dynamical systems aiming to develop methods for characterizing complex neural networks' activities. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Courant Institute with a Ph.D. from University of Washington.
Rubinow joins with extensive corporate leadership experience across various industries including New York Stock Exchange transformations; he holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from University Illinois Urbana-Champaign alongside master's degrees spanning multiple disciplines such as marketing finance computer science screenwriting.
