The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) and the Office for Access and Equity are marking the 2024 National Disability Employment Awareness Month. This year's theme is "Access to Good Jobs for All."
UIC emphasizes its commitment to including persons with disabilities in all aspects of university life, including employment. The university values the contributions of employees with disabilities and aims to maintain a diverse workforce. In line with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Illinois Human Rights Act, and other relevant laws, UIC pledges to provide reasonable accommodations to qualified employees and applicants with disabilities.
Employees seeking reasonable accommodation can review the Employee Accommodation Procedures or contact Peter Berg, the university’s ADA coordinator, via email at pberg@uic.edu or by phone at 312-996-0512 for any inquiries.
As part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the Office for Access and Equity is sponsoring a professional development program titled "Employees and Reasonable Accommodations: What You Need to Know."
The session will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 16 from noon to 1 p.m., online via Zoom. It will cover an overview of employment provisions under the Americans with Disabilities Act, examples of accommodations, and procedures for requesting a reasonable accommodation at UIC. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions after the presentation.
Interested individuals should complete the online registration form by Oct. 14 to receive the Zoom link.
