Northwestern University’s American Music Theatre Project (AMTP) and Teatro Vista Productions (TVP) will host a free concert featuring Mexican musical theater storyteller Jaime Lozano. The event, titled “Jaime Lozano & The Familia: Songs by an Immigrant,” is scheduled for Monday, October 14 at Wirtz Center Chicago in Abbott Hall, located at 710 N. Lake Shore Drive on Northwestern’s Chicago campus.
The concert will include selections from Lozano’s albums “Songs by an Immigrant” and “Songs by an Immigrant Vol. 2.” His work delves into themes of identity, belonging, and the immigrant journey. Members of Northwestern’s theatre program and ensemble members of Teatro Vista Productions will join Lozano to perform songs reflecting the experiences of immigrants in the United States.

Lozano is recognized as a significant figure in musical theater, with Lin-Manuel Miranda describing him as a “force to be reckoned with.” His project has performed sold-out concerts at venues such as Joe’s Pub, 54 Below, The Green Room 42, Two River Theater, and Lincoln Center’s American Songbook Series. His latest album was released under Concord Theatrical Recordings.
Teatro Vista Productions is a non-profit multimedia theater company dedicated to artists of color. It operates as the only Equity Latino/e theater company in the Midwest and has won multiple Jeff Awards for its productions.
AMTP supports the development of new musicals by providing artists with resources needed to develop their work while engaging Northwestern students through various opportunities.
