Tech firm expands global operations while embracing remote work

The beauty of today’s technology is that with a strategic business plan and a powerful team at the helm, it is within the realm of possibilities to take a company to a global scale. Such is the case with a leading tech company that provides industry-independent, ready-to-use service ticketing solutions as well as customizable software for various service management needs.

OTRS’ proprietary software bolsters business process automation and helps companies of any size manage inquiries and tasks efficiently. This is achieved by a united global team.

With team members working from countries around the world, OTRS is truly an international company. The headquarters are located in Germany, but there are employees in countries like Brazil, Singapore, Mexico, and several cities in the U.S., now including Chicago.

Jeff Brown, Director of Sales AMERICAS, is a proud Chicago native and is thrilled to be bringing OTRS to his hometown. Jeff was born on Chicago’s South Side before eventually moving to Naperville as a teenager. He is an avid Chicago sports fan, with the White Sox topping his list (even during their slow seasons). At 19, Jeff joined the military but has lived on and off in the Chicago area for nearly 40 years. Now it looks like he’s here to stay.

Jeff has been with OTRS Group for about six years and thrives in his home office setting. He can set up his office exactly how he likes it: quiet with occasional ambient music playing in the background, a cushy office chair, and an ultra-widescreen monitor. Additionally, he enjoys a north-facing lakefront view of Grant Park and the Chicago skyline. This peaceful setup allows Jeff to optimize his productivity.

Studies have shown there are tremendous benefits to allowing employees to work from home in their ideal environment. One such study conducted by the U.S. Career Institute cited time saved (an average of 55 minutes), money saved on things like gas and lunch out, individual quiet time, and more time spent with family as some top benefits of working from home.

While Jeff’s schedule may vary daily, he has found a generally consistent routine that lets him work at optimal levels. Surprisingly to some, this includes connecting with coworkers. OTRS Group has employee camaraderie down to a science.

“My favorite part about OTRS: the people," said Jeff Brown. "I was introduced to OTRS by a good friend who recommended OTRS as an employer I could be proud to be part of—not only because of the quality of our solutions but also because of its unique culture. I can honestly say that I enjoy working with each of my colleagues who I consider more like family than coworkers.”

OTRS goes to great lengths to foster that feeling of belonging—from sending care packages for major life events to virtual happy hours or even virtual cooking classes. The company builds employee relationships through creative team-building activities effectively. Furthermore, once a year or so, OTRS Group employees get the chance to meet face-to-face at a company summit held in Germany.

OTRS Group demonstrates that a global business model can work wonderfully even from home offices across the globe. As one of OTRS Group’s valued team members, Jeff will be hard at work bringing OTRS’ unique service to the beautiful Chicago area.
