Amazon Romeoville Center GM: ‘I’m now working in my passion’

Shenetra Moses, the general manager of Amazon’s Romeoville Center, said her position with Amazon allows her to work inside of her passion, which she discovered during the first years of her career.

Shenetra Moses, the General Manager of MDW6, an Amazon fulfillment center in Romeoville, has a mission beyond logistics. A Chicago native, Moses brings experience from industries ranging from healthcare to aerospace and defense, and she’s focused on creating opportunities for minority women in STEM at Amazon. Moses’ career has spanned more than 18 years.

“I graduated from a Chicago public high school, but I’ve never had an opportunity to share my story in the city,” she said in an interview with Southland Marquee. After years in engineering and executive roles, Moses returned to Chicago, driven by family and a desire to give back.

At Amazon, Moses was among the first external hires as a Level 8 General Manager, a milestone for both her and the company. “I was one of the first classes of external leaders to come in. It was different, and it was challenging, for sure,” she said, reflecting on her time in California. After a year and a half away from Amazon, during which she held a senior executive position at General Electric, Moses returned to the tech giant.

“There were things about Amazon that drove me to it in the first place that I missed almost instantly when I left,” she said, reflecting on her decision to rejoin Amazon’s customer fulfillment network in a leadership role closer to home. “I’m in a place now where I’ve been in this role for almost two years, and my building went from one of the worst to one of the best,” she said.

Moses emphasized the importance of mentorship and pipeline development for minority women in leadership roles at Amazon. “I want to come back to the building so I can work on pipelines, because the only way you get more of me is if you develop the pipeline,” she explained. Her efforts have led to the creation of a sponsorship program within Amazon’s North America Customer Fulfillment network, aiming to mentor and advance women in STEM fields.

On her journey with Amazon she said, “I feel like we've come a long way. We're not where we were when I left. And the biggest thing I have to share with my network leadership is I don't intend to leave anytime soon. I do want to continue to grow and learn more about Amazon.”

Shenetra Moses is General Manager and STEM Executive at Amazon. She currently works at Amazon Chicago’s MDW6 fulfillment center in Romeoville, Illinois.
