CME Group announces winners of 20th University Trading Challenge

CME Group, a leader in the trading world, declared the winners of its 20th annual University Trading Challenge. The team from Universidad De Guadalajara in Mexico outshone their peers to claim first place. Contestants for this challenge came from as many as 156 universities worldwide.

Running over four weeks and engaging more than 400 teams, the annual competition comprised 1,865 students from 24 nations. In an impressive record, it represents the fourth consecutive win for a Latin American team and the second successive triumph for a Mexican team in this global contest. The other winning positions were filled by Christopher Newport University from the United States in second place, followed by the University of Colorado in third place, Georgia Institute of Technology in fourth place and Universidad de Medellin from Colombia securing fifth place. According to CME Group's press release, participants throughout the event gained invaluable experience trading various futures including agriculture, energy, metals, equity indices, interest rates, and foreign exchange.

"We congratulate the students from around the world who participated in our 20th CME Group University Trading Challenge," stated Anita Liskey, CME Group Senior Managing Director of Global Brand Marketing and Communications via a press release by CME Group. "In today's uncertain global economy risk management is more important than ever. Thus our University Trading Challenge provides future traders and risk managers with unique hands-on experiences that explore trading's dimensions and build skills they need for future finance careers."

Offering a free electronic trading experience is one aspect of The CME Group University Trading Challenge that stands out. As part of this simulation which takes place on a professional trading platform facilitated by CQG (Commodity Quotation Guide), both undergraduate and graduate student teams are given an opportunity to trade diverse ranges of CME Group products across multiple asset classes. Each participating team must comprise three to five members all hailing from the same university; selection of a student leader is mandatory.
