Mayor Kelly Burke encouraged residents of the Evergreen Park Village to do their part to keep the community and the environment clean in honor of Earth Day, which is coming up on Saturday, April 22.
Burke released her Mayor's Monthly Message on April 12, focusing on the community's Earth Day events for the month, as well as providing recycling tips.
"With the arrival of spring, it’s a great time to renew our commitment to sustainability and take action toward protecting the environment," she wrote. "In this spirit, I would like to share some helpful tips on recycling and two upcoming community environmental events. By following some simple guidelines, proper recycling is possible and will ensure that our waste is diverted from landfills and reused in an environmentally responsible way."
The first event took place April 15 at Yukich Fields, located at 89th and Kedzie. The Village, in collaboration with the Environmental Recycling Commission, organized a textile recycling event with the aim of providing people with an opportunity to dispose of their old clothing, linens and textiles in an eco-friendly manner.
Evergreen Park will also host a park cleanup event for the community this Saturday for Earth Day. All residents, businesses and organizations are invited to take part in the event. Participants will work together to pick up litter from various parks across the village, and the initiative will offer a great opportunity for volunteers to socialize while taking positive steps towards environmental sustainability, Burke said. Students who need to accumulate service hours can also join in the efforts, as confirmed by the Village of Evergreen Park. To ensure a smooth and successful event, interested volunteers are requested to preregister on the official website.
"As always, thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to our beautiful community;" Burke wrote. "Let’s continue to work together toward a more sustainable future on Earth Day and every day."
