Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot attended the grand opening of a new dining option in the Chatham neighborhood that the mayor said could prove to be a boon for residents and businesses alike.
Vegan Now 2 Go, at 1536 East 75th St. in Chatham, opened March 31 and, according to its website, features carryout vegan meals made from real products with a goal of providing access to nutritious eating options in the community.
“One of the big lessons that we learned coming out of the pandemic is that health disparities in black Chicago and particularly on the South Side are significant,” Lightfoot said during the grand opening celebration in a YouTube post. "Diabetes, heart conditions and other things, and a lot of that stems from the lack of access to healthy food choices. This is part of the solution and a plan to address that urgent need."
The restaurant, according to its website, uses fresh ingredients in the preparation of its plant-based meals, which include made-to-order burgers, sandwiches, pizzas and other options.
“Vegan Now 2 Go is a lifestyle that provides our customers with real food fast and tasty on-the-go vegan meals, allowing us to accomplish our continued goal of offering convenient access to healthy eating for all communities, both locally and nationally,” their website reads.
According to the website, the eatery also allows diners to select from their favorite soul food dishes from a mini hot bar, they also can select pre-made meals for singles or families.
If you have a sweet tooth, desserts are also on the menu, according to the website, including dairy-free milkshakes. The website also features a children’s menu that includes chicken nuggets with fries, nachos with cheese and seitan crumbles and mac and cheese.
Vegan Now 2 Go offers carryout, delivery or dine-in options, the website noted. Orders can also be placed online, according to the website.
