Chicago's Sip & Savor on launch of Black Business Expo: 'Black Owned Business! I am talking to YOU!'

Black-owned business hospitality group and coffee house chain Sip & Savor announced the launch of its Black Business Expo, which will take place Nov. 25-26.

"Black Friday a 'little' different, yet full of excellence this year!" Sip & Savor said in a promotional Facebook post published recently. "Black Owned Business! I am talking to YOU! I don’t care how BIG or small you may believe your brand and business is, this is about YOU and I want to support and promote YOU!"

Sip & Savor, whose tagline is "Where coffee and community meet," was founded by Trez V. Pugh III, who recently retired after working with both the U.S. government and law enforcement for over two decades.

"Pugh prides himself on working with disabled veterans, recovering addicts, and the homeless," the Sip & Savor website said. "Pugh also enjoys being a mentor volunteering his time when his schedule permits to speak with at risk kids."

Pugh's first foray into the coffee house business was the Bronzeville Coffee House on 43rd St., which eventually became the first Sip & Savor. There are currently three other locations alongside the one in Bronzeville: Hyde Park, Matteson and Rosenwald.

"Walk into either Sip and Savor and you’re likely to see a familiar face," the website said. "It’s common for media personalities, entrepreneurs and elected officials to be sipping coffee along with retirees, college students and other hard-working Chicagoans in for a break and a good cup of coffee and great community-focused conversations."

Pugh's goal is to use his business as a means of bringing the local community together, and the company also helps local bakeries by selling their pastries and treats.

The Rosenwald location, otherwise known as Sip & Savor 47th after the street it sits on, is hosting the Black Business Expo on Black Friday to promote other Black-owned Chicago businesses. Interested parties can email whitney@sipandsavorchicago.com to reserve an open spot.
