Dowell: 'For anyone that needs a free Thanksgiving dinner, there are lots of great options throughout the city'

Chicago Alderman Pat Dowell promoted various options for locals to find free Thanksgiving dinners in a tweet published on Thursday.

"For anyone that needs a free Thanksgiving dinner, there are lots of great options throughout the city, including two here in Bronzeville. Details, plus information on a local job fair, park events, the Cook County Tax Sale and more in today's eblast," the tweet read.

The post also featured an advertisement for the annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner hosted by the Dream Team at Mt. Pisgah MBC, which is located at 4622 South King Dr. The meal is open to anyone, and masks are required.

Another Thanksgiving opportunity is being hosted by Two Fish Crab Shack, alongside Marianos. The event will begin at noon and will run until "exhausted." The Thanksgiving menu consists of the following: Turkey, crab legs, pot roast, lamb chops, fried chicken, baked chicken, salmon, turkey chops, mac and cheese, cajun pasta, string beans with turkey, sweet potatoes, seafood dressing greens with turkey, cornbread dressing, crab fried rice, turkey lasagna and turkey mostaccioli. Music will be provided by DJ Tance. Two Fish Crab Shack is located at 641 E. 47th St.

According to the official Chicago government website, Dowell was a "significant catalyst for the rebirth of the historic Bronzeville community" in the 1990s.

"She has an extensive background in urban planning and community development and was one of the primary architects of the Bronzeville Development Plan – which won a Burnham Award for excellence in planning," her bio reads. Dowell has also served as executive director of the Near West Side Community Development Corporation, was the founding executive director of the Mid-South Planning and Development Commission and was executive director of Chicago Public Allies.
