'You're in for a treat': Buddy the Elf to appear at Hyde Park's Holly-Day event

Buddy the Elf, who has been found around Hyde Park in recent days taking photos with local residents, will be at the Dec. 3 Hyde Park Holly-Day, according to a social media post.

“If you've met Hyde Park's own Buddy the Elf, you know just how amazing he is! If you've never met him, you're in for a treat!” Harper Court said in the Facebook post on Nov. 9. "He'll be chatting people up in Harper Court, at The Promontory, and at the Hyde Park Shopping Center."

Holly-Day is set to include family-friendly activities and games from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., the post stated. The event is sponsored by the University of Chicago in partnership with the Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Hyde Park and the South East Chicago Commission, the post stated.

The event will feature an ice carving demonstration and "sculpture stroll," and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available for photos in addition to Buddy the Elf. There will be “holiday crafts, dance performances, costume character meet-and-greets at local businesses and live reindeer.”

Harper Court, a shopping mall located in Hyde Park, first opened in 2013 at the corner of 53rd and Lake Park Avenue. The building is a residential space, offices and has areas for public events, according to the University of Chicago

“Its community space grants exclusive access to events and festivals while dining and entertainment venues spill out onto the sidewalks," the website states. Harper Court was built to “anchor new life” in East Hyde Park. Harper Court is an eco-friendly building with rainwater recollection systems and LED lights, UC stated in the post.

RSVP for free on the event's website.
