Chitown Crime Chasers, a media organization that "chases crime all over Chicago," published a Facebook post Nov. 14 showing two nooses had been discovered hanging from a tree in "a black neighborhood" on the South Side of Chicago.
“Today, one of my followers was doing an Instacart order on the South Side, where she spotted two nooses hanging from a tree in a neighborhood where majority of Blacks live” the post read, saying the tree was located at 58th Street and Artesian Avenue in Chicago.
The CCC said it was the second such sighting of nooses on the South side in less than a week.
As reported by CNN, a noose was found Nov. 11 at the construction site of President Barack Obama’s Presidential Library, causing Lakeside Alliance, the construction company at the site, to issue a statement saying it will cooperate to find who was responsible, and work at the site would be halted as the scene is investigated.
Lakeside Alliance is offering a $100,000 reward for any information on the culprit. Chicago Police are investigating the incident, according to CNN.
“We are horrified that this would occur on our site," Lakeside Alliance stated. "Lakeside Alliance remains committed to providing a work environment where everyone can feel safe, be their best self, and is treated with dignity and respect. Our priority is protecting the health and safety of our workforce.”
This shameless act of cowardice and hate “is designed to get attention and divide us,” the Obama Foundation said in a statement.
Tyrone Muhammad of Chicago was at the scene protesting where the noose was found, according to the CCC post.
“It’s sad that racism still exists in this country," Muhammad reportedly said. "We as the people, not only Blacks, but people of all races need to come together to stop this madness and end racism for good.”
